Process:
For my first mission for my ‘Digital Media’ we were
asked to view the missions that were on introdm.cdmonline.ie and read all of the pieces and chose one that we found interesting to
us. After carefully reading through all of the pieces, I decided to go with ‘Digital
Journalism’.
I joined a group with Karolina and Keith as we all
hadn’t worked with each other before and we felt that we all had a keen
interest in the topic of digital journalism. We decided to meet up three
different times and spent a lot of hours preparing for our final mission.
The first time we met up it was to brainstorm our
ideas for this mission which lead us to a lot of time just scribbling down
notes of ideas and random thoughts. The second time we met up was to create a
story map, timeline and story board. And the third and final time was to film
our scenes for the video.
Our
Goals for this mission:
The goals for our mission was to understand and learn
and the difference in journalism in time and how much things have changes in relation
to digital media, the internet and technology. We wanted to use the tools that
were provided to us to produce our own version of what we believe digital media
to be as millennials.
The
end product we hoped to produce:
We hoped to produce a journalism story of our own
version of a modern day ‘Jack The Ripper’ based in TUD Blanchardstown.
The resources that
helped or could help you along the way:
We decided to use the tool that was provided to use
which was the website ‘StoryMap’, this is a website that creates a map that allows
you to pinpoint places on it to show how/where a story took place. We used this website as we wanted to recreate
our own modern day murder mystery so we pinpoint places in our college where a
murder could take place.
We came up with an Idea that Karolina and myself would
act in a video pretending to be the victims friends from college while Keith
recorded it. We made fake statements to give a more real ‘News’ effect. We
wanted to try and recreate a real feeling news story.
We also made a timeline from resources we found
from Wikipedia and YouTube to find out all information about ‘Jack The Rippers’
murders in ‘WhiteChapel’ in London, England. We went into vivid detail when
researching as we wanted to know about the murders in serious detail from the
names of the woman, the location of where the murder took place , the time of
death, and the injury that caused them to die. We found out most woman who were
killed had their throats slit which we all found very eerie.
After doing our research we decided to meet up
again on campus to film the content for the video. We filmed over in block A as
we felt it would have the best lighting and the sound control would be good. After this the editing started for Keith as he
knew how to edit .
We were so excited to see
our final product.
