The creation of the product including instructions:
We decided to meet up early for a whole
day on campus so the we could film the scenes on the college campus. We filmed in
block A and block E. Keith brought his equipment from home as he has shot
videos before so we were lucky in that aspect. So Karolina and I acted in it as
we wanted to be a part of the video while Keith filmed and edited it.
So as I said before we used ‘StoryMap’
which is a free tool website that allows you to create and tell stories through
timelines and locations for events.
So when we first met up we decided to
spend a good bit of time researching to allow us to gather the information that
we needed to create our story. Karolina and I spent over 2 hours researching
and noting any reports or articles that we red online about the victims or the
murders that took place in 1888 on websites like Wikipedia, Google and YouTube
we felt like these different websites gave us an insights to different types of
journalism and how each journalist views a story differently. We next went into
the computer room in the college to create our story board for the video writing
down thoughts and ideas that we wanted to include or used for the story. The
three of us then wrote a script on questions that an interviewer would ask us,
so Keith had a set of lines to ask us as the puppet and we had a set a lines as
witnesses.
Creating
of the presentations
Keith told us about how he had a
puppet and we could use him as the interviewer as it would be more original
that way, we all thought it was a funny and good idea as nobody else would be
doing that. So that day we set up the camera equipment in college and started
filming. It took us a very long time to find a place in college to set up the equipment
as everywhere was either too noisy or the lighting was bad so we discovered
there was a lot of difficult aspects to the filming part. It surprisingly took
us longer that we thought due to the fact Karoline and I were definitely not actors
and don’t plan on being it anytime soon 😊 as we kept on messing up our lines or just kept getting the
giggles.
In the interview we just wanted to ask basic
questions like ‘how did you know the victim’? do you have any idea who committed
this horrible crime’? By using the puppet ‘Wally’ we thought it would make this
dark event of a murder mystery seem less serious and more so fun and enjoyable
to watch. I believe us creating this whole concept and this story and filming
all the different parts it gave us an insight into how the ‘News’ can be quite
scary and stressful.
